Shivaji Rao Gaekwad (born on 12 December 1949),professionally known by his stage name Rajinikanth is the highest paid Indian film actor and a prominent media personality.He is best known for his mass popularity and appeal, largely drawn from his mannerisms and stylized delivery of dialogue in films. He received India’s third highest honour, the Padma Bhushan, in 2000 for his contribution to Indian cinema.Other than acting, Rajinikanth worked as a screenwriter, film producer, and also a playback singer. Apart from his film career, he is a philanthropist and serves as an influence in the politics of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.



Rajinikanth made his debut as an actor in Apoorva Raagangal (1975), directed by Kailasam Balachander, whom the actor considers as his mentor. He was later favoured in Tamil cinema for portraying antagonistic characters and gradually rose to acting in lead roles. After the release of his film Bairavi (1978), he became known as the “superstar” of Tamil cinema, a title given to him by film producer S. Dhanu and still used by many people to refer to him.While acting in many Indian languages, he also appeared in films of other nations, including one American film. Sun Television Network, whose film production arm Sun Pictures produced Enthiran, today announced that they earned revenues of Rs 179 crore from the Superstar Rajinikanth starrer.
A release announcing the quarterly financial results of Sun Group said: ‘During this quarter, the Company released a blockbuster movie
simultaneously in three languages titled ‘Enthiran’ in Tamil and ‘Robot’ in Telugu and Hindi.’

‘The Company earned revenues of Rs.179 crores, including Rs.15 crores
expected towards satellite rights which has not been included in the revenues in this quarter. The Company has spent Rs.132 crores on the production of this blockbuster.’

The variety the actor brought to the three roles he played in the film took him to new levels of stardom.
Yet again, Rajinikanth will play three roles in his next project ‘Raana’, which brings the Rajinikanth-director K.S.Ravikumar-composer A.R. Rahman combination together after nearly a decade.
For most fans of ‘superstar’ Rajinikanth, the films ‘Muthu’ and ‘Padaiyappa’ made by this combination will invariably figure in the list of all-time favourites. The films came with the stamp of a thorough entertainer with liberal doses of humour and music that made waves.
Though talk of the possible release date of what was originally ‘Sultan the Warrior’ kept surfacing in Kollywood every now and then, each time with a new name for the much talked-about animation film, it will possibly follow ‘Raana’, sources say.

A few months ago, news about ‘Sultan the Warrior’ being readied for release in the name ‘Hara’ started doing the rounds. Some believed that K.S. Ravikumar would direct select portions of the film.
However, news about ‘Raana’ has now rendered all those talk futile.
Sources also say that ‘Raana’ will be produced by the actor’s wife Lata Rajinikanth, for Ocher Studios. The full length feature film, will have Bollywood actor Deepika Padukone playing the female lead.
Rajinikanth is also roping in cinematographer Rathnavelu, who worked with him in ‘Enthiran’.
Rajeevan is the art director. Director K.S. Ravikumar whose collaboration with Rajinikanth set new records at the box office, had been working with Kamal Haasan in the last few years, bringing out films such as the hilarious ‘Panchatantiram’, ‘Dasavatharam’ and the more recent, ‘Manmadan Ambu’.
The director, known for his screenplay, intelligent humour and his cameo roles, can be expected to come up with a complete entertainer that would appeal to both rural and urban audiences, say industry sources.
